02 May 2012, Madurai: In a joint press meet held at Madurai Aadheenam on 02 May, H. H. Paramahamsa Nithyananda and his predecessor Guru Maha Sannidhanam Srila Sri Arunagirinatha Sri Jnanasambanda Desika Paramacharya Swamigal, the 292nd Guru Maha Sannidhanam (pontiff) of Madurai Aadheenam, clarified the reasons for the former’s choice of H. H. Paramahamsa Nithyananda as his successor. The press meet was held in the wake of a meeting allegedly held at Mayiladuthurai yesterday by certain Saivite math heads to protest and pass a resolution against the coronation which took place on 27 April at Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam’s international headquarters in Bidadi near Bengaluru.
Responding to questions from the media, the 292nd Guru Maha Sannidhanam lashed out against the idea of legal interference in this purely religious matter.
“It is absolutely the inner affairs of the Mutt. Actually you are violating the fundamental rights of the Aadheenam. The decision to choose a certain person as the future Peethadhipati (pontiff) is… absolutely in the hands of the Almighty Lord Shiva… this is the truth. This highest post of Guru Maha Sannidhanam comes through poorva punya (spiritual merit earned in earlier lives). He is not appointed… through the Employment Office,” declared the 292nd Guru Maha Sannidhanam in no uncertain terms.
Referring to the current situation, H. H. Paramahamsa Nithyananda clarified that several attempts had been made over the past few days to meet with and offer an explanation to the respected traditional math heads, but unfortunately they had been refused an opportunity for explanation even over the phone.
Several baseless issues had been raised by the math heads, prominent among them being the allegation that H. H. Paramahamsa Nithyananda did not belong to the Saiva Vellalar community, which is traditionally the only community from which the Guru Maha Sannidhanam (pontiff) of the Madurai Aadheenam can be chosen. In response to this, H. H. Paramahamsa Nithyananda invited to the stage the elders of the Saiva Vellalar community from his home town Tiruvannamalai, who could vouch for the fact that H. H. Paramahamsa Nithyananda was indeed born into the said community.
H. H. Paramahamsa Nithyananda also revealed that several prominent spiritual heads, including H.H. Sri Sri Ravishankar, former VHP international President Sri Ashok Singhal, Kanchi Jayendra Swamigal, the representative of Mata Amritanandamayi, the national head of the Saiva Vellalar community and close to 40 others had personally congratulated and offered their support on him on his ascension to the peetham (throne).
In closing, H. H. Paramahamsa Nithyananda humbly requested the math heads to kindly withdraw their resolution, failing which his followers worldwide who have been deeply affected by these baseless allegations would be left with no choice but to initiate legal action against them.
The ashram has received information that followers in over 1000 Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam centers have resolved to lodge the following complaints against the Mutt Heads who have signed the resolution, under the following sections of the Indian Penal Code – 120 (B) – Criminal Conspiracy, 500 & 501 – Defamation (Civil), 153 A & B – Instigating communal violence, 295A – hurting the religious sentiments.
Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam’s followers are also entering into an indefinite hunger protest in front of the Dharmapuram Aadheenam starting 6th May. One lakh devotees will also present petitions signed in blood to the Tamil Nadu Government, requesting permission to file 295A against the Mutt Heads for this gross disregard of their religious sentiments.
“We want them to drop this unfair resolution against our guru. We have no other demands,” said a devotee of Paramahamsa Nithyananda.
