Both pontiffs verbally abused; brahmachari and volunteer beaten on Madurai Aadheenam property
Madurai, 30 May 2012: In one more shocking incident, seven anti-social elements verbally abused the two pontiffs of Madurai Aadheenam and assaulted two Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam devotees just outside the Kanjanur Agneeshwara temple when the group was leaving this afternoon after cleaning the temple as part of their voluntary social services in the village.
At sunrise today, the two pontiffs of Madurai Aadheenam and about 100 volunteers of Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam had gathered and spent the morning cleaning the ancient temple belonging to Madurai Aadheenam, which is undergoing a major renovation effort after His Holiness Paramahamsa Nithyananda took over as the 293rd pontiff of the 2500-year old Hindu religious establishment on 27 April this year.
As they were leaving Kanjanoor, the assembled anti-social elements attempted to stop the car in which the two pontiffs were traveling and started abusing them verbally. They then dragged a trainee brahmachari Sri Senthil Kumar out of one of the escort cars and started physically assaulting him. A volunteer Muthukrishnan and others who rushed to his aid were also assaulted by the miscreants and have sustained injuries. Four persons have been arrested in connection with this incident. The incident has been partially videotaped by Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam’s official videographer, and the videos and photos have been handed over to the Tiruppananthal police.
29 May assault: It may be recalled that yesterday morning H.H. Paramahamsa Nithyananda, along with his predecessor Srila Sri Arunagirinatha Sri Jnanasambanda Desika Paramacharya Swamigal had rushed to Kanjanur after the chief Administrator of Madurai Aadheenam temples, Sri Nithya Hamsananda, was assaulted by the henchmen of Dharmapuram and Tiruppananthal Aadheenams. The two pontiffs visited in hospital and healed Sri Nithya Hamsananda and another ashram brahmachari Sri Nithya Paramananda who was also assaulted in the same incident, before moving to Kanjanur to assess the situation there.
A complaint has been lodged by Sri Nithya Hamsananda against the persons responsible for the incident at Tiruppananthal Police Station under IPC sections 506 (1)(criminal intimidation) and 3(1) of the PPDL Act (for entering and damaging the Aadheenam’s property). A silent rally which was planned today to protest against this incident was withdrawn after the local police promised to arrest the guilty and requested the pontiffs to withdraw the protest. The Madurai Aadheenam Protection Committee has also demanded that the two pontiffs of Dharmapuram and Tiruppananthal Aadheenam should give up their pontiffship as they are facing criminal charges.
Press Meet: The two pontiffs held a joint press meet at Madurai Aadheenam this evening in connection with this incident, where the videotapes of both days’ incidents were played for the media. Paramahamsa Nithyananda pointed out that three sections of miscreants were creating obstacles in the social reform and anti-corruption drive that have been brought into force in the last one month since his coronation as the 293rd pontiff of Madurai Aadheenam: certain opposing Aadheenams who fear the loss of their own supremacy, the land grabbers sitting on the vast properties of Madurai Aadheenam and some local rowdies who were out for cheap publicity and could be bought for a price.
H.H Paramahamsa Nithyananda observed that the miscreants who have been posing as ‘Madurai Aadheenam Rescue Committee’ have now entered openly into terrorism. He revealed that the two main people involved in today’s incident – G. K. Annadurai and Kottur Annadurai – had already sold some of the private properties of Madurai Aadheenam and were in the process of selling certain other properties. Madurai Aadheenam is the hereditary trustee of Kanjanur Temple and has certain rights and responsibilities related to worship and maintenance of the temple. Kanjanur Temple and a large percentage of the village properties are directly owned by Madurai Aadhenam. On 16th May this year, both the pontiffs of Madurai Aadheenam had visited Kanjanur and announced a range of services to be provided shortly to the people of Kanjanur, including clean drinking water, hygienic toilets and drainage facilities, and a 20-bed hospital whose construction has already started.
Defamation suit against Dharmapuram Aadheenam pontiff: In a related incident, a private complaint has been filed by Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam administrator Sri Nithya Atmaprabhananda before the Judicial Magistrate No.1 of Madurai against the Dharmapuram Aadheenam pontiff and his representative Guruswami Desikar under IPC sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 500 (criminal defamation), 505 (creating enmity between two groups or classes), 153 (spreading rumors). The two had filed an affidavit before the Magistrate of Madurai Court earlier this month to the effect that the 292nd pontiff Srila Sri Arunagirinatha Sri Jnanasambanda Desika Paramacharya Swamigal had been kept hostage by Paramahamsa Nithyananda and his people and was in a drugged state and incapable of making sound decisions for himself or his organization. The court had later dismissed the petitions.
The 292nd pontiff of Madurai Aadheenam revealed that both he and Paramahamsa Nithyananda were considering requesting the Central Govt. for protection for themselves and their followers in the face of repeated assaults from anti-social elements. However, they were optimistic about getting justice for their cause. ‘I have complete faith in the police force and in the Tamil Nadu Govt.,’ said Paramahamsa Nithyananda.
